OUR FOUNDING STORY
Calah Williams
Founder, Calah Cares
Founded at age 16-Travis County, TX
“This work is not just about equipment or training. It is about empowering people to act with confidence and ensuring that preventable loss of life is not accepted as unavoidable.”
Calah Cares was created from a simple belief: preparedness should never be optional when lives are at stake. After witnessing how quickly a medical emergency can unfold and how unprepared many community spaces are to respond, Calah felt a responsibility to help change that reality.
At sixteen years old, she chose to act. She founded Calah Cares to promote awareness, education, and access to life-saving resources in the places people gather most: churches, community centers, schools, and event spaces across Central Texas.
These spaces bring people together every day — yet many lack the tools or the trained bystanders needed to respond to Sudden Cardiac Arrest. When someone's heart stops, the person already in the room is the first line of response. Bystander CPR can double or triple the chance of survival.
Through partnerships, outreach, and advocacy, Calah Cares seeks to make preparedness accessible and sustainable. The goal is simple: to build environments where readiness is the norm, not the exception.
Mission & Vision
Our Mission
The mission of The Calah Cares Project (CCP) is to reduce preventable loss of life due to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in underserved communities across Travis County and Central Texas.
We accomplish this through accessible AED technology, comprehensive CPR training, and targeted awareness programs delivered directly to the community spaces where people gather, with a focus on educating and empowering residents who face disproportionate barriers to cardiac emergency preparedness.
We believe every community, regardless of zip code or resources, deserves to be equipped and ready to save lives.
Our Vision
Calah Cares envisions a future where every community space, including churches, schools, community centers, event venues, and gathering places of all kinds, is equipped and prepared to respond to cardiac emergencies without delay.
We strive for a reality where SCA awareness and preparedness are standard elements of community care for all people, particularly those in underserved and under-resourced communities, ensuring that no life is lost due to lack of access to an AED or a trained bystander.
Help Build Heart-Safe Communities Where It Matters Most
Sudden Cardiac Arrest does not affect all communities equally. In Travis County, Black and Hispanic residents in underserved neighborhoods face higher rates of heart disease and lower rates of bystander CPR response. Calah Cares works directly in these communities to close that gap, through education, AED access, and hands-on CPR training that empowers everyday people to save lives.
We believe preparedness is a health equity issue. Every community space, regardless of zip code or resources, deserves to be equipped and ready to respond.
Calah Cares is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
